The first couple of days of my trip to Accra, Ghana are now over. Getting here was quite the experience, but being here is even more of one. All of my life I have dreamed of someday visiting Africa. I’ve always imagined a world so completely opposite of the middle-class suburban one that I am used to, and have had a vision in my mind what it would be like on the other side of the world. Despite everything I’ve ever learned about Africa, there have been major differences between my expectations and reality. There are so many things to observe and everything moves at such a fast pace. I feel like I don’t have enough time to spend learning about aspects of the culture that are not like my own.

I hope that with more time spent here in the upcoming weeks that I am able slow down and get a greater grasp of my surroundings. Here are a few images that I made in my first two days in Accra from shopping at the Makola market, attending class at African University College of Communications, our welcome dinner at La Palm Beach Royal Hotel and volunteering at Street Sisters Daycare.
